Massive train ticket price hikes planned

Prepare yourself for a brace of stunning rail ticket hikes. Prices could rise more than 6% due to rising retail price index (RPI) inflation - and prices could even rise higher for some.

Long distance season ticket holder will bear the brunt of the rises. Why the rise? Tomorrow's RPI figures will likely hit the 5% plus mark. Under current pricing arrangements, this allows rail operators to hike prices by 1% above the previous July's RPI figure. So figure on at least a 6% price bump.
